It has been such a year of learning more on my part than on my students. The routines, the testing, the wiggly students, the hugs; it was all worth it.
In preparation of the last day, I wanted to do something special for the kids. So, I took out my crafty hands and got to work. My mom helped me with taking the wrappers off of the crayons.
I made my little boxes out of scrapbook paper.
Put these babies in the oven to melt for a few and came out with these adorable hearts! I LOVED how they came out! Thank you, Pinterest!
And into the little boxes they went, with tissue paper to blanket it. Last, I wrapped them up and voila!
The last day of school was a whirlwind of fun-ness which consisted of blacktop chalk time, Popsicles, watching Planet Earth and Tangled with kettle corn and our special guests (my brother and his friend), and some more junk food that the kids brought, ugh.
The last 15 minutes were a time that I wanted to have with the kids so that they can remember this day. I took out my ukelele and we all sang songs together that we knew, "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "What a Wonderful World". It was such a sweet and tender moment that will be engrained in my heart forever. The kids were so engaged and some figured out that our time was closely coming to an end. Some began to cry as we sang and I should have just kept going and sang, but if you know me, you know I am a very emotional person. So, I then started to cry and then more kids did and then they just came and gave me a group hug. I want to say half of the kids were crying, oh gosh.
I proceeded to give them their heart crayons and they loved them. I hope they always remember all of the fun and love that we had in our class and strive to be their best as a student and a person.
I got the go ahead to teach first grade this upcoming year, so let's do this! Hopefully It will go a little smoother now that I have an idea of what to do now.
