The Beginning of the End

I don't know about Brandon, but I am tired and it's only the first week of the semester (second week of student teaching full-time.) I may be exhausted from student teaching, but I am so grateful that I have this wonderful opportunity to learn more about what it means to be a full-time teacher. I sure do appreciate what teachers do for their students. It's so much work and preparation that when I go home, once I sit on the couch, I just crash and shut off.
This last week has been a good one for us though. My husband was fortunate enough to successfully transfer shifts at UPS due to his class schedule. We were already anticipating that he would have to find another job since they wouldn't give him the transfer, and sure enough UPS called him the very last day that he was scheduled to work. We know that it wasn't sheer luck that this happened either.
Great things have been happening in my classroom. I have been taking over little by little as each week passes. What's great is that it seems to be getting easier and more natural to me. I even unofficially "substituted" for my class this last Friday since my site teacher educator was not there. It went fairly well and the students were great. It gave me confidence that I can actually do this and survive. Next time, I will make sure that when I do sub, I will get paid for it and not have another adult "substitute" and sit and watch me teach.
One of my favorite things that we did do was the Wishing Stick. The students were encouraged to write wishes for the new year for themselves and the world. They were also encouraged to write personal wishes. You can tell the difference between the public and personal wishes on the stick because the personal ones are rolled/folded up, while the public ones aren't. The finished product was so cool. I'll let the pictures do the talking.

I may have mentioned this before on our blog, but I couldn't have been placed in a more perfect school. I feel that I can learn from these students as they learn from me as well. They are so brave and take risks that I wish I could have been like that when I was their age.
This is our last semester until we're done with our Bachelor's degrees! Time will fly, and sure enough, it will be May 4th and we'll be done! So I will leave with this final comment,
May the fourth be with us!
